This is one of the biggest problems for online newbies that can and will create absolute failure online. We are guilty of it from time to time. Whether it hits us when we are just beginning or whether it hits us when starting a new project, you must plan and see the path and pull in the big picture in order to make a business online successful.

My friend Dave is a complete and total “newbie” and a few months ago he spent the day with me at an Internet marketing event. It was kind of fun watching a new guy try to absorb it all.

By the end of the day he’s heard about Google ads, lead generation, follow up marketing, autoresponders, Digg, Squidoo, Facebook, Twitter,  Search Engine Optimization, list segmentation, video, viral marketing, and a whole bunch of stuff about Ebay.

He’s also been offered no less than six different product packages and coaching programs from four different people. Totally bewildering for him. Honestly I felt just a little sorry for the guy. He’s not even quite sure what business he wants to be in yet.

THAT is a hideous place to be.

But there’s an even worse problem than that:

Being like most of my customers – on 17 different email lists – each one trying to tell you what you “ought to do” right now.

Welcome to Part 2 and hope you have gleaned a lot valuable information. For those of you just getting going, I hope that this article by Marlon Sanders helped you understand the big picture of what starting a business online truly means. Although there are lots of steps to take, this is not rocket science. It’s about having the right information and taking action.

Part 2 Main Article: Marlon Sanders

I don’t think everyone should be in this business. If you don’t wanna figure anything out yourself, if you don’t wanna learn how to solve problems, if you don’t wanna learn more things about html and the computer than you really wanna know, if you can’t tolerate risk, if you need your first attempt to be a success, or even your first 3 or 4, then I don’t know, if you can’t afford to spend money on learning and education, if you can’t afford to try things that don’t work, if you think it should all be simple and easy, I don’t know if this industry is for you.

A lot of people get seduced by the lure of ez dough. The promises of zillions without learning. Just connect the dots and you too can be John Reese, Marlon Sanders or whoever you wanna choose.

Here’s the deal: People WILL sell you a turnkey system to escape your job, make zillions or whatever. They’ll give you the fish. I want to teach you TO FISH.

I can’t talk about this subject to much. This is something 99.9 percent of all would be online entrepreneurs fall into in the beginning and it is a destroyer of dreams and creates distrust and really isn’t good for anyone. I don’t know what it is about it but for some reason creating a business online is viewed by many as some kind of magical existence online.

Building a home based business online is just like any other business and they take time to build and you need a plan. If this stinking thinking can be caught early on then you can be spared the agony.

On with the Main article:

I don’t want you to be an easy “Mark” that others can take advantage of. I want you to be educated and sophisticated in what you’re doing. If you avoid the mistakes I’m about to give you, you’ll avoid a lot of the traps and pitfalls that others fall into.

Most of these wrong paths involve the following mistakes:

obviously this series has been a basic overview of what has to take place when building a successful online business and your job is NOT over when your website goes live! It really is only the beginning and this part of running a business online is where you will spend most of your time. It is finally to the point where you need to start  sending customers to it, and the FASTEST way to do that is with a pay-per-click (PPC) advertising campaign. Pay per click advertising is simply the fastest way to drive traffic to any website or blog. Welcome to the 4th essential part of creating a successful online business and I gotta be up front here. There is to little time spent on Web design. The design you choose to use is extremely important I guess on of the best ways to explain this is to you is to have you think a bit about the sites that you go to that you really like. There are very specific reasons that you like those particular sites and chances the other who go to those same site feel the way that you about it.

Let me explain it from this angle. Over the past few years I have read a number of studies but probably the most in depth study was done by Brad Fallen and Andy Jenkins of Stompernet. My apologies I have tried to find that case study and I simply but the gist of the study is this. In order to maintain the prospects attention your site has to have a well organized flow to it and it is for the most part essential that you don’t load your site up with a bunch of flash.

Remember that the average Joe is there first for information! They need to find what they are looking almost instantly or you take a chance of loosing them quickly. That is what I love so much about blogs as they give the opportunity to offer different layouts. And in today’s market place there are blog models even for online ecommerce stores. Do your homework with this aspect of your business. Spend time and research other sites and look at different layouts and how they can be improved.
